Groups are a fundamental algebraic structure with a deep and beautiful theory. A group is just a set equipped with a binary operation that is invertible and has a unit.

I like Rotman’s Introduction to the Theory of Groups as a graduate / advanced undergraduate general introductin. A lot of nice historical notes about where the ideas came from as well. Lots of treasures in the exercises.
