Writing online #

I like writing online, or blogging. I also really enjoy reading what other people write online, particularly if it is in their own independent corner of the internet.

  • Paul Graham on how to write usefully.
  • George Saunders on the process of writing a novel.
  • Nick Parker on the “list of fish” sanity check for good writing (which is actually a quote from a Derren Brown book - don’t think I ever expected to be quoting Derren Brown), something that I often think about when I write on this website.
  • Tony Ballantyne with lots of practical writing tips (in emacs of course).
  • Henrik Karlsson on how writing blog posts is like writing a very finely tuned query to bring out the niche audience you’d like to interact with.
  • Nate Silver’s typically highly optimised and data-driven advice on how to blog effectively (if effectively basically means “to make money on Substack”).
